Maybe I don't use this as designed, but I find the velcro patch that connects under the buckle to be a design flaw. It may be a useful pad if you keep the collar on your dog all day, however, connecting and disconnecting it from your dog get pretty tedious compared to just a plain buckle. I leash up my dog when we go outside every time, and I do that via the collar that stays connected to the leash. Now I have this velcro obstacle to deal with every time. So, for brief outings, I will use a different leash and collar. This one is reserved for "heavy duty" jobs, like dog park visits and longer hikes where the sturdy handle may come in form extra control. She's a Malinois and a solid collar with the grip may save the day. So far, I have not had to try that. The price of the collar is extremely competitive, so I have to give it 5 stars, even if it isn't perfect for my use case. Really no big deal, given I have far more collars and leashes than dogs. The durable can-do appearance of this collar alone is a 5 star winner on my Mal. I am still looking for that solid 1 inch leather leash to go with it, but the collar goes well with any leash. There's no style police here. It is all about function and durability.
